In Chinese culture, the traditional red envelopes are given on Lunar New Year as a symbol of good fortune and are typically filled with money. As a nod to the tradition, Walker Hotels is gifting red envelopes to all guests who check in at Walker Hotel Greenwich Village or Walker Hotel Tribeca from January 27-31. In the spirit of good fortune, each envelope will contain cash, a complimentary dinner at hotel restaurants Society Cafe or Mostrador, or a free stay* at each respective hotel.
Walker Hotels has partnered with A4 to produce a custom-designed red envelope for the occasion. Brooklyn-based Chinese-Indonesian artist Gentle Oriental, aka Gabrielle Widjaja, incorporated elements inspired by traditional Chinese art, the Year of the Snake and Walker’s own logo to create the exclusive design.
Walker Hotel Tribeca / 77 Walker Street
Once a button and ribbon factory, Walker Hotel Tribeca sits on the border of Chinatown, perfect for enjoying the neighborhood’s Lunar New Year festivities. The 171-room property features four food and beverage outlets, including rooftop bar in partnership with popular Lower East Side bar The Flower Shop; sub-cellar cocktail lounge Saint Tuesday, featuring nightly jazz performances and custom cocktails; a lobby outpost of renowned Blue Bottle Coffee; and flagship restaurant Mostrador, an Argentinian-inspired dining experience concepted by world-famous Chef Fernando Trocca.
