Deets: Barbie®: A Cultural Icon charts the 65-year history of Barbie and the doll’s global impact on fashion and popular culture through an expansive display of more than 250 vintage dolls, life-size fashion designs, advertisements, and other ephemera, along with exclusive video interviews with the doll's designers. Visitors to the exhibition will trace the evolution of Barbie from a child’s toy to a global icon across six distinct sections, each exploring the style trends, careers, and identities that Barbie has embodied and popularized since her debut in 1959.

The opening section relays the Barbie origin story and presents all twenty-two original ensemble outfits, while subsequent areas consider the influence of the Space Age; the creation of Christie™, the first Black Barbie doll; the arrival of Ken™; and the creation of the Barbie Dreamhouse™. Visitors will also see Barbie in the iconic fashions of the 1970s, including Groovy Style, beachwear, and disco-themed designs, while sections on the 1980s and 1990s present a selection of diverse Barbie dolls representing a range of ethnicities, body types, and careers, including a feature on the first Black Barbie. The exhibition culminates in the 2000s, spotlighting the continued diversification of characters within the Barbie universe and connecting them to contemporary fashion trends, perspectives, and identities.

The exhibition, curated by Karan Feder and drawn from the private collection of David Porcello and Mattel, also features more than 50 historical objects and five unique photo opportunities, including a life-size Barbie Ultra 'Vette™ with which visitors can interact. The exhibit will also showcase the Barbie Signature 65th Blue Sapphire Anniversary Fashion Dolls, paying homage to the iconic history and legacy of Barbie.

Barbie®: A Cultural Icon is presented in collaboration with Illusion Projects and Mattel, Inc., a leading global toy and family entertainment company and owner of one of the most iconic brand portfolios in the world. Deets: Following critically acclaimed, sold-out engagements at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles and Arena Stage in Washington, DC, the smash-hit Mindplay will enthrall audiences in New York City this December. Created and performed by Drama Desk Award-nominated mentalist Vinny DePonto (Charlatan), written by Vinny DePonto and Josh Koenigsberg, and directed by Andrew Neisler, Mindplay invites audiences to an unforgettable, gasp-inducing experience in which your thoughts and memories play a leading role. Infused with intrigue and mystery, DePonto guides participants on a jaw-dropping, interactive journey as he reads minds while also revealing his own.

The show was hailed by Broadway World LA as an “inviting, nostalgia-ridden… gem of a performance. Vinny DePonto is a masterful actor, storyteller, mentalist, and illusionist, and Mindplay puts all his talents on display in a unique production that is not to be missed.” The Washington Post raves that DePonto “brings ‘how did he do that?’ wonder to delight all…” and demonstrates “enthralling feats of mind-probing prowess…” and “mesmerizing stage magic — including one particularly head-spinning stunt.” Masterfully blurring the line between illusion and reality, while investigating the wildly unreliable natur of memory, Mindplay will send audiences reeling into the night.

Deets: HEYTEA, China's leading new-style tea brand, announced a groundbreaking partnership with the internationally acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama. This partnership marks the first time a Chinese new-style tea brand has joined forces with a globally renowned contemporary artist, creating a unique fusion of tea culture and modern art.

Under the theme “Adding a Touch of BOBO to the World," the China Project of Love & Life merges Yayoi Kusama's iconic polka dot art with HEYTEA's signature BOBO elements—the cheerful, round bubbles that have become synonymous with the brand's innovative tea beverages. This fusion celebrates joy, vitality, and the infinite possibilities of artistic expression.

The partnership finds its roots in the shared affinity for "polka dots" between HEYTEA and Yayoi Kusama. Known as the "Queen of Polka Dots," Kusama has long used dots to symbolize infinity and interconnectedness in her art. Similarly, HEYTEA's BOBO—pearls in their bubble tea—represent joy and healing energy, making each sip a delightful experience. This commonality serves as a bridge, uniting the realms of contemporary art and new-style tea culture.

Limited-Edition Products and Merchandise

In celebration of this partnership, HEYTEA is launching seven BOBO tea series products, including the much-anticipated return of Supreme Brown Sugar Bobo Milk (Original), Soybean Pudding Bobo Milk, Mango Grapefriut Boom, Duo Matcha Buffalo Milk and etc. Each beverage will feature exclusive, limited-edition packaging inspired by Kusama's art, including limited-edition drink cups adorned with collaborative designs that blend Kusama's polka dots with HEYTEA's aesthetic, artfully designed paper bags and cup sleeves featuring whimsical illustrations. Additionally, HEYTEA stores worldwide will offer a range of specially crafted merchandise. These include exclusive keychains and mugs that encapsulate the artistic spirit of the partnership. These items will be available as exclusive gifts during the project, enhancing the emotional connection between HEYTEA and its customers.

Deets: The Dead Rabbit announced the next phase of its partnership with The Rooftop at Pier 17 in the Seaport. Beginning January 10, The Rooftop will shed its holiday decor to become Joxer’s, an all-new Irish sports bar concept. The Dead Rabbit brings its high-touch modern Irish hospitality with a unique menu and accompanying decor spanning the entire rooftop space–including the private dining cottages, full-service bar, bungalows, and ice skating rink. Guests are welcomed to experience Joxer’s through early March, after which it will transition into the pub’s “Paddy’s Not Patty’s” St. Patrick’s Day concept.

Joxer’s derives its name from Irish singer Christy Moore’s “Joxer Goes to Stuttgart,” a classic folk song that tells the story of a group of Irish soccer fans traveling to Germany in support of the Republic of Ireland at the 1988 UEFA European Championship. Following suit, Joxer’s captures the excitement and camaraderie of sports fandom, creating a space for spectators to root for their favorite teams over a drink and participate in winter games in an iconic space overlooking the city.

Joxer’s will feature neon sports signs, memorabilia from major sports organizations like the NBA, NFL, and NHL, and no shortage of large screen TVs. The Tavern and Cottages will provide an environment akin to a VIP box at a sporting event, complete with a carefully-curated and full-service food and drink experience. The Bungalows and Ice Rink, meanwhile, will offer more of a casual grab-and-go atmosphere for walk-in guests looking to watch games alongside large groups of friends.

Ideated by the team at The Dead Rabbit, Joxer’s drinks menu will feature high-quality and high-integrity takes on sports bar classics, spanning highballs, boilermakers, hot cocktails, and more, as well as a thoughtful selection of beer, wine, and Irish spirits. Featured cocktails include the Joxer’s Irish Coffee (Tullamore D.E.W., hot coffee, salted caramel, whipped cream), Bonus Points Boilermaker (a pint of Guinness served with a shot of Teeling Small Batch Whiskey, Cacao, and Cassis), and Zamboni Negroni (Sipsmith Gin, Italian Bitters, Sweet Vermouth, Dunkin’ Donuts Cold Brew, Rhubarb). The food menu will include cold-weather warmers including Ham and Cheese Toasties, Guinness Glazed Ribs, Baked Mac and Cheese, Corned Beef Tacos, and a classic Irish Spice Bag.

Programming at Joxer’s will include all major league games and events, with the option to request specific channels in The Bungalows and Cottages. Game nights and other special themed moments will be announced on a rolling basis. Guests will further be able to get in on the action throughout the entire space via arcade games, pool, foosball and more. In addition, guests can continue to enjoy skating The Rooftop’s Ice Rink.

Deets: Winter Glow. This winter, celebrate the elements of light, art, and storytelling in Flatiron & NoMad with free public pop-up programming and explore the interactive installations The Diamonds by Perséides Studio and Spectrum by Mirari from QDSinternational.

The Diamonds
The Diamonds dazzle as they reflect sunlight, and shine brightly when they light up at night. From a distance, Alexis Laurence and Francis Laporte’s elegant interactive artwork, The Diamonds, draws your eye, inviting you to get closer and make the structures turn. Their movement produces a melody along with a kaleidoscopic array of glittering lines and points. Each Diamond has its own distinctive colour and tune. When you get together with other people to make each installation spin, the artwork produces a harmonious waltz in music and light, a thrill for your eyes and ears.

Spectrum
This interactive installation sheds light on the phenomenon of communication, by displaying the path taken by the waves generated by voices and other sounds. Here, the fundamental means of interpersonal communication, speech, is disconnected from language. Instead, it becomes a cascade of waves and luminous pulses, illustrating the fascinating trajectories of sound. Watch as your message moves from one end of the circles to the other. You will see how small gestures – invisible reverberations – can have a big impact.

Tulips by Hou de Sousa & String Lighting by Hou de Sousa
Designed and installed by award-winning architecture firm Hou de Sousa, the Flatiron Public Plazas feature new lighting that enlivens our public spaces. On the South Plaza, next to the Flatiron Building, view the festive lighting installation, Tulips and on the North Plaza enjoy overhead string lighting.

Winter Glow will also celebrate our local businesses with exclusive deals from local Flatiron & NoMad retailers.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Join them for a celebratory unveiling event on Thursday, January 16th of the latest Winter Glow art installations in Flatiron & NoMad! Details TBA. Learn more.

The pop-up, located at 1515 Broadway, will be decorated in the theme of Inazuma, an enchanting nation from the world of Genshin Impact, and offer a series of fun activities. Open to the public with no reservations required, fans can explore multiple photo opportunities inspired by Inazuma's cityscape and take pictures with cosplayers dressed as game characters. Visitors will also have the opportunity to shop a curated selection of exclusive merchandise celebrating the Genshin minini characters, including collectible figures, plushies, snow globes and other special items designed exclusively for Genshin Impact fans.

The Genshin minini POP-UP offers fans and newcomers alike an opportunity to connect with Genshin Impact in a whole new way, building on the global partnership between IPX and HoYoverse, which combines HoYoverse's imaginative game universe with IPX's innovative character IP expertise. Following the overwhelming success of the initial Fall 2024 Genshin minini POP-UP in Seoul, South Korea, this marks the first time the Genshin minini pop-up will launch in the United States, creating a must-visit destination for fans and anyone seeking a unique experience in New York City.

The official Genshin minini characters were created by reinterpreting Genshin Impact characters through IPX's creative team, emphasizing their personalities and braveness despite their cute appearance and small size. This unique collection includes fan-favorite mascot Paimon and seven beloved characters from the Inazuma region, such as Raiden Shogun, Kamisato Ayaka, Yoimiya, Sangonomiya Kokomi, Kaedehara Kazuha and Taroumaru. Reimagined as miniature versions of themselves, these characters hope to charm both Genshin Impact fans and general character enthusiasts alike.

Additionally, through its partnership with HoYoverse, IPX plans to release minini characters representing each major region in Genshin Impact. These launches will take place in select major markets in Asia and the US, allowing IPX to further connect with fans worldwide.

Deets:
Times Square Arts is pleased to present Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio's Love Ever After as the winner of the 17th annual Love & Design Competition, on display from February 4 – March 4, 2025 with the support of curatorial partner The World Around and collaborator Billion Oyster Project.

Love Ever After is designed to create beauty through simplicity, where reuse, regrowth, and love for the environment and community are an integral part of its story. The project assembles metal mesh used for oyster reef cages to create a three-dimensional grid revealing geometries of a heart. The three-dimensional heart flickers and shifts color and shape as the angle of its perception changes, creating a tactile and human-scale experience in contrast to the high-tech screens for which Times Square is famous.

Accompanying the installation will be an additional oyster cage filled with shells, symbolizing the future of Love Ever After: after February, the pieces of the heart will become oyster reef cages placed around New York City's shoreline, monitored by hundreds of volunteers as part of Billion Oyster Project's mission to restore one billion oysters back to New York Harbor by 2035.

For seventeen years, Times Square Arts has hosted the Love & Design competition to celebrate the work of innovative, emerging architecture and design firms, and speak to themes of love during the month of February in Times Square. The finalists for this year’s competition included: Atelier Masomi, Jerome Haferd, Space Caviar, and Studio Galeon.

Deets: Grupo Gitano, a luxury global hospitality group renowned for its tropical dining experiences, is proud to announce the opening of its flagship location in the United States in 2025. In its new home on Pier 17 in the Seaport, GITANO NYC is set to bring its unique fusion of jungle vibes, sophisticated design, and exclusive dance club to the heart of lower Manhattan, offering guests an unforgettable urban jungle escape with spectacular waterfront views.

This new permanent venue marks a significant milestone for Grupo Gitano, following the November 2024 launch of GITANO DUBAI, and a series of other international pop-ups and seasonal experiences. Now, with its roots firmly planted in the Seaport, GITANO NYC is ready to deliver a full-scale dining and nightlife experience, complete with signature cocktails, seasonal menus, and an ambiance reminiscent of its Tulum origins.

"We are thrilled to start an important new chapter in NYC with our permanent, year-round home at the Seaport, where we will be able to elevate the guest experience to new levels," said James Gardner, Founder and CEO of Grupo Gitano. “This is a unique and stunning property, perfect for GITANO NYC. We will blend the energy and creativity of New York with the laid-back luxury of the Yucatán, to transport our guests out of the city to our bohemian, tropical paradise that is delicious, glamorous and fun!”

GITANO NYC’s new location on Pier 17 reflects the modern luxury of Tulum with views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The venue includes various transportive spaces, each with its unique personality and vibe, including a dramatic, ballroom-like main dining room with 30’ ceilings where New York City’s largest disco ball will hang and hydraulic glass doors that open onto the water. A second floor will offer an intimate and exclusive club, designed to transport guests to the inside of a disco ball.

We can’t wait for guests to experience GITANO NYC in its new location on Pier 17. GITANO is known for its blend of nightlife, entertainment, and Mexican-inspired food and cocktails, and this vibrant experience is the perfect addition to our lower Manhattan neighborhood.
— Anton Nikodemus, CEO of Seaport Entertainment Group

GITANO NYC’s design captures the spirit of Tulum while integrating the cosmopolitan edge of New York City. The venue is adorned with lush palm trees, leopard-print details, antique brass chandeliers, and intricate rose-colored rope chandeliers created by Mexican artisans. Handcrafted light fixtures and cement tiles imported from Merida, Mexico, add an authentic touch, while Zapote wood tables and banquets ground the space in its Yucatán roots.

Located at one of New York City’s most dynamic waterfront destinations, GITANO NYC is poised to become more than just a dining experience. The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala®) / May 5
Met Gala Exhibition Dates: / May 10 – October 26, 2025

Deets: The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced The Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, on view at The Met Fifth Avenue from May 10 through October 26, 2025. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition will present a cultural and historical examination of the Black dandy, from the figure’s emergence in Enlightenment Europe during the 18th century to 21st-century incarnations in the cosmopolitan cities of London, New York, and Paris.

To mark the exhibition opening, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour will co-chair The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala®) on May 5, 2025, with honorary chair LeBron James. Additionally, chef Kwame Onwuachi will create the menu for the evening and artist Cy Gavin will design the décor concept alongside Derek McLane and Raúl Àvila. The annual event provides the department with its primary source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, operations, and capital improvements.

The exhibition and benefit are made possible by Louis Vuitton.

Major funding is provided by Instagram, the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe and Africa Fashion International, and The Perry Foundation.

Additional support is provided by Condé Nast.

The Exhibition

The Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition will present a cultural and historical examination of the Black dandy, from the figure’s emergence in Enlightenment Europe during the 18th century to today’s incarnations in cities around the world.

Inspired by Guest Curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition will explore the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora. Historically, the term dandy was used to describe someone—often a man—who is extremely devoted to style and approaches it as a discipline. Dandyism was initially imposed on Black men in 18th-century Europe as the Atlantic slave trade and an emerging culture of consumerism created a trend of fashionably dressed, or dandified, servants. Dandyism offered Black people an opportunity to use clothing, gesture, irony, and wit to transform their given identities and imagine new ways of embodying political and social possibilities.

The exhibition will tell the Black dandy’s story over time through a range of media, such as garments and accessories, drawings and prints, and paintings, photographs, film excerpts, and more. Taken together, these narratives offer a history and description of Black dandyism as a discrete phenomenon that reflects broader issues of power and race in the Black diaspora.

Deets: The Tribeca Festival, presented by OKX, announced that the 24th edition of the festival will take place June 4-15, 2025 in New York City. Submissions are now open. For more than two decades, Tribeca has been a leading destination for new, groundbreaking creativity from established and emerging artists.

The Festival, which hosts more than 570 events across New York City, concludes on June 16.

Tribeca 2024 was a record-breaking year with over 13,000 submissions and nearly 600 events for more than 145,000 attendees. World premieres of the year’s most anticipated titles included ¡CASA BONITA MI AMOR!, “Presumed Innocent,” Brats, Sacramento, and “In the Arena: Serena Williams.” Tribeca’s star-studded reunions, retrospectives, and live talks spotlighted names like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Demi Moore, Andy Cohen, and the cast of “The Sopranos.” Next June will be bigger and better than ever as Tribeca continues to showcase the best storytelling in film, TV, games, immersive, audio storytelling, and talks.

Building upon the success of the 23rd festival, Tribeca today announced new opportunities for emerging filmmakers to premiere projects and grow their careers. From the new Creators Forum to expanded submission guidelines, Tribeca seeks to create more entry points for storytellers across mediums. The inaugural Creators Forum—a dynamic, multi-day summit taking place within the Tribeca Festival—is designed for the broader filmmaking community. It will feature conversations with today's most innovative industry leaders, roundtables offering intimate group mentorship on topics ranging from festival strategy to distribution, case studies with key learnings from some of the biggest indie success stories, unique networking opportunities, and much more. Forum attendees will be able to capitalize on the depth of talent at Tribeca to grow their project and their careers.

From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man.

Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma).

But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.

The film co-stars Sam Jaeger (The Handmaid’s Tale), Ben Prendergast (The Sojourn Audio Drama) and Benedict Hardie (The Invisible Man), with newcomer Zac Chandler, Beatriz Romilly (Shortland Street) and Milo Cawthorne (Shortland Street).

Join Academy Award-nominated actress June Squibb for a conversation with Scarlett Johansson about her remarkable career onscreen — and her Film Independent Spirit Award nominated turn in Thelma, which will screen after the talk.

Over a 70-year career, June Squibb appeared in the original stage production of Gypsy and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Alexander Payne’s Nebraska. But in Thelma, at the age of 95, she finds the role of her career. Inspired by a real-life experience of director Josh Margolin’s own grandmother, Thelma follows an elderly grandmother on an odyssey across Los Angeles to reclaim $10,000 after she is scammed. Squibb anchors the film — her first starring role — with grit, determination, and infectious humor.

Enjoy Squibb with Johansson on her long, illustrious, uncommon career — how she and Margolin developed her character, finding comedy in the serious business of aging, stories from the set, and more followed by a screening of Thelma.

Deets: A recent taste test found 7 out of 10 dairy drinkers prefer Silk Vanilla Almondmilk over dairy in their cereal. But Silk, America’s #1 plant-based beverage brand wonders how anyone could disagree. Silk is so confident that Silk Vanilla Almondmilk makes the best cereal companion, it's on a mission to find those who say they prefer dairy milk in their cereal to determine if they’re telling the truth… or if they’re Cereal Liars. There’s just one catch: they’ll be hooked up to a polygraph to put the superior taste to the ultimate test – the lie detector test, that is!

Just in time for National Milk Day (January 11th), Silk is hunting down those 30% who say they prefer dairy milk and partnering with Phaedra Parks – the reality TV icon and queen of deception who knows a thing or two about spotting a lie when she sees one– to host a live taste test in New York City on January 9th. Anyone in the New York City area can visit for a chance to taste cereal with both Silk and dairy milk while hooked up to a lie detector test, facilitated by famed polygraph examiner John Grogan, to help Silk determine who’s telling the truth and who’s a “Cereal” Liar.

Anyone who says they prefer dairy milk and isn’t caught in a “cereal lie” by the polygraph will walk away with $50 (good luck with that!). For those who don’t pass the test, Silk will make sure everyone finds out they’re a Cereal Liar!

Fans and passersby will have an opportunity to flex their strategic skills to pass through three challenges in order to escape the island and receive a chance to win a prize from the Banker. However, like most escape rooms, time is of the essence. As attendees navigate the challenges, a timer will indicate the heat on the island steadily climbing. Deets: Maccabee Bar was started in 2018 by award-winning bartender Naomi Levy when she saw a huge gap in the holiday market. “I love Christmas and all of the Christmas bars that pop up this time of year,” says Levy. “But I always felt like a tourist. There was never really anything for someone like me that wasn’t raised with Christmas.” She chose to share her own Jewish heritage with her community by offering up a space that celebrates Hanukkah and Jewish culture in a welcoming space. Maccabee Bar is meant for anyone who wants to experience a different side of the holidays, whether you grew up celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza or anything else. Bars that host a Maccabee Bar pop-up are transformed into a Hanukkah wonderland with special decor, specially themed cocktails and traditional bites. Offerings change every year but there will always be Latkes and lots of Chutzpah!

Hint for the Average Socialite: Open December 23-January 4.
