Deets: Kolkata Chai Co, the South Asian food & beverage company known for their buzzy cafes around New York City has plenty of reasons to celebrate recently. The company marked the 5 year anniversary of their East Village location this week, which is often recognized as the first authentic chai cafe in America, and are announcing their National Chai Day celebration next week.

On Thursday, September 26th, Kolkata Chai is bringing people together for an evening of free chai, DJs, guest appearances and more at their Nolita location (60 Kenmare St). This is the 3rd straight year that they’ve organized festivities around National Chai Day (Sept 21st) to celebrate the rich cultural heritage around chai, the sweet and spicy drink commonly found across the South Asian subcontinent.

Founded in 2019 by brothers Ani and Ayan Sanyal, Kolkata Chai is reclaiming the narrative around masala chai in the Western world with their multi-unit cafe experience and CPG products. They recently announced an investment and partnership with Peabody-Award winning actor and comedian, Hasan Minhaj. “KCC chai tastes like going home. It all comes from their attention to detail and commitment to authenticity. Joining the company didn’t even feel like a choice; it felt like a calling. Great chai has always been a secret in our community, and I want everyone to finally experience it for themselves.” says Minhaj.

Join Kolkata Chai in celebrating National Chai Day next Thursday, September 26th  with free chai, DJs and more.
