Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by Earthday.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. Open Streets: Car Free Earth Day

NYC DOT will celebrate the 54th anniversary of Earth Day on Saturday, April 20, with seven signature car-free streets and 46 community-organized locations as part of Open Streets: Car-Free Earth Day. Citi Bike will offer free 30 minute rides.

Earth Day on Governor’s Island

Gov­er­nors Island’s third annu­al Earth Day cel­e­bra­tion will cel­e­brate the pow­er of native plants through free edu­ca­tion­al activ­i­ties and work­shops for all ages, guid­ed tours through the Island’s open space, a par­tic­i­pa­to­ry mur­al inspired by the rela­tion­ship between milk­weed and Monarch but­ter­flies, Gov­er­nors Island Nature activ­i­ties, and vol­un­teer stew­ard­ship projects.

Broadway Celebrates Earth Day

The Broadway Green Alliance and Times Square Alliance present the third annual Broadway Celebrates Earth Day concert. This unique star-studded concert will feature live performances from Broadway's top talent and young performers from around the region, as well as interviews with environmental thought-leaders. The concert will take place on Broadway between 45th and 46th Streets - and streaming online - as part of the NYC Department of Transportation's “Car-Free Earth Day.”

Pier 57 Earth Day Celebration

Seaport Kids x Earth Day

Sustainable castle construction. Lego building. Plants and science and the beauty of recycled materials. It’s all part of the upcoming Seaport Kids x Earth Day lineup of activities hosted by Mommy Poppins and Brooklyn Bridge Parents on Saturday, April 20.

Buffalo Exchange Earth Day $1 Sale

On Saturday, April 20th, Buffalo Exchange will be hosting their annual Earth Day $1 Sale at all locations (excluding outlets) where you can shop an unbelievable selection of clothes, shoes and accessories for just $1 apiece. The best part? 100% of proceeds from this year’s $1 Sale will benefit Goats of Anarchy, an amazing animal sanctuary in New Jersey for injured and disabled farm animals!

Family Day: Spring Fest at Carnegie Hall

Rothy’s Help End Plastic Waste Event

Join the museum for a full day of family-friendly activities and performances celebrating planet Earth.  

John Luther Adam’s Crossing Open Ground at Lincoln Center

On Saturday April 27, in celebration of Earth Month, Juilliard and Lincoln Center present Crossing Open Ground, an outdoor work by John Luther Adams for winds, brass, and percussion. The piece, written for multiples of 40 musicians, will be performed across Lincoln Center’s 16-acre campus by an acoustic ensemble of Juilliard student and alumni musicians and dancers. Tickets are not required. Just show up!

Single Use Reflections Sculpture on The High Line
Through April 17
In honor of Earth Month, a new sculpture aptly titled "Single Use Reflections" encourages viewers to pay closer attention to the trash we create—and how we can change that both systemically and individually. Over the weekend, beauty brand Kiehl's unveiled a sculptural installation by artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong. The artwork is on view at the High Line through April 17.

Free Trees for New Yorkers from The New York Restoration Project
Through May 12
The 2024 NYRP free tree giveaway season kicks off on Saturday, April 13 and will continue on Saturdays and Sundays through Sunday, May 12.
