Deets: Culture. Creativity. Ancient traditions with a twist. The Lunar New Year is almost here, and The Seaport will be marking the occasion with a day of celebrations on Saturday, February 17. Join us as we usher in the Year of the Wood Dragon with our friends at the New York Chinese Cultural Center and the South Street Seaport Museum.
Traditional Lion Dance
Three lion dance performances will take place on Seaport Square, kicking off at 1PM. If you miss your chance to catch the action and snap some photos during the first performance, the lions will perform again for you to enjoy. RSVP is encouraged, but not required.
Chinese Crafts & Calligraphy Workshops
As part of the Lunar New Year celebration, visit the Seaport Museum to create your own Chinese Lion Chain craft with a maritime-inspired spin and join a skilled teaching artists from the New York Chinese Cultural Center for one of three delightful 45-minute workshops exploring the art of Chinese Calligraphy and its importance to the Lunar New Year.
