Deets: For the first time, New Yorkers and visitors will participate in the changing of the crystals for the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball when One Times Square brings a one-of-a-kind display with hundreds of crystal triangles to the Times Square Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47thStreets on Thursday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m.Members of the public will be invited to change out crystal triangles from the past and replace them with the newly designed Crystal Triangle to be placed on the Ball for the December 31st, 2024 celebration. Participation will be on a first come first served basis and while supplies last.
After replacing the current crystal with one 2025 crystal on the display, participants will be able to take home their crystal triangle from the current New Year's Eve Ball as a keepsake and gift to the public from One Times Square, which is announcing its opening in 2025. The activation is also a preview of what’s to come next year, including the Crystal VIP Experience, where ticketed guests will have a behind-the-scenes, up close look at the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, place a new crystal directly on the Ball, and take home a personalized crystal.
The New Year’s Eve Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, and weighs 11,875 pounds. The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 crystal triangles that vary in size, and range in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side. For Times Square 2025, all 2,688 crystal triangles that adorn the Ball will be replaced for this New Year’s Eve celebration, showcasing one of two special patterns that highlight what’s to come at One Times Square.
The 2025 One Times Square Crystal design features long linear cuts with a circle near the top representing the 139’ pole and the iconic building famous for the Ball Drop Celebration that welcomes the beginning of each new year. The Ever Crystal design consists of three pairs of interlocking rings surrounded by diamond-shaped facets that provide the setting for the letter E, symbolizing unity and enduring love.
Hint for the Average Socialite: Crystals will be given away while supplies last and on a first come first serve basis.
