Deets: The New York Transit Museum’s Holiday Train Show opens November 14th at Grand Central Terminal! Celebrating its 20th year of operation, this beloved holiday exhibit features Lionel model trains traveling along a 34-foot long, two-level, “O” gauge model train layout. Departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Terminal, the Transit Museum’s collection of model trains, including Metro-North, Polar Express, and vintage subway train sets, will dazzle the eyes of children and adults alike as they make their way past New York landmarks and on to the North Pole.
Lionel trains have been a cherished part of American childhood for more than a century, and the image of a miniature locomotive circling a tree remains an icon of the holiday season. Hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoy this magical, one-of-a-kind experience every year – the only train show in New York City that is free and open to the public.
Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is free and open to the public.
The Holiday Train Show is on view through February 2025. The New York Transit Museum Gallery & Store at Grand Central is open Monday through Friday, 10am to 7:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm; and is closed on major holidays. The Gallery is located in the shuttle passage on 42nd Street and Park Avenue, adjacent to the Station Master’s Office.
