n fashion, this question celebrates identity, creativity, and influence. For survivors of sexual assault, it’s used to blame them for the violence that happened to them. In one context this question is empowering, on the other, it takes away survivors’ agency. On September 11th, 2023, survivors and allies will step out on the world stage to take back their power as part of the third annual NYFW Rise Survivor Fashion Show. The 2023 show will spotlight survivors’ rights and celebrate all who advocate for survivors worldwide. Together, we can reclaim this sentence — and our power.
What’s Next?
On September 2nd, 2022 Rise made history when our multi-year campaign for global survivors’ rights resulted in the United Nations General Assembly adopting the first-ever standalone resolution for survivors during peacetime. But survivors still need your help. Justice should not depend on geography. In order for there to be true peace, survivors everywhere need access to justice systems. Join Rise as we launch a multilateral treaty campaign for universal jurisdiction over sex crimes. Ending impunity and protecting survivors is the shared responsibility of the international community. All nations must protect survivors, not rapists. With your support, we can expand access to justice for all survivors.
