Deets: A little girl on a BIG journey, Little Amal is the giant puppet at the heart of The Walk. Since July 2021 she has travelled over 8,000km in support of refugees.
The 3.5 metre-tall living artwork of a young Syrian refugee child has walked across Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine to focus attention on the urgent needs of young refugees.
In September 2022, Amal will travel to New York City. After arriving at JFK Airport, she will travel through all five boroughs, meeting artists, civic leaders, community groups, and young New Yorkers of all backgrounds.
Amal will be welcomed by many of the city’s leading cultural institutions, including St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Brooklyn Children’s Museum, The Classical Theater of Harlem, Lincoln Center, and The New Victory Theater; by community-based groups such as The Mujeres en Movimiento, The Arab-American Family Support Center, and South Bronx Unite; and by public school students from all five boroughs through the NYC Department of Education’s theater and arts programs led by Peter Avery.
Little Amal Walks New York is produced by The Walk Productions and St. Ann’s Warehouse.
