Deets: Times Square Arts is pleased to announce ‘Bloom’ by Habitat Workshop [@habitatwksp] is the winning design of the 14th Annual Times Square Love and Design Competition 💕 ‘Bloom’ is presented in partnership with @madmuseum and will be on view and open to the public in Duffy Square from February 9 through March 9, 2022.

"The array of pixelated heart patterns blooming from the center are less recognizable from the ground approach but crystalize when gazing up from the inside of the structure. The varying thickness of the circular roof plane casts shadows that change direction and shape, and the surrounding billboards, buildings, and headlights cast a changing spectrum of colors at night. BLOOM embodies this space between change and constant, as represented by the relationship between fixed structure and its multiple readings. It serves as a reminder for grounding love that can provide room for growth." – Jieun Yang of Habitat Workshop

Habitat Workshop is an award-winning architecture and urban design practice promoting design as a framework for positive changes.

The four other designers and studios invited to participate were: A+A+A [@aplusaplusa], bioMATTERS Studio [@biomatters.llc], Devang Arvind Shah [@devangarvindshah], and Studio Fierro [@studiofierro_pllc]. Big thanks to our jurors Elissa Auther, Museum of Arts and Design; Carson Chan, MoMA; Kendal Henry, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs; Wendy Feuer, Formerly NYC Department of Transportation; Nina Marren, NYC DOT Art Program; Elizabeth Masella, NYC Parks & Recreation; and Kim Yao, Architecture Research Office. ‘Bloom’ will be fabricated by IDEKO.
