March 10 / Satisfied

June 2 / One Night in Miami
September 7 / TBA

Deets: The United Palace is celebrating Hamilton’s 10th anniversary with free screenings of cast-led films, followed by exclusive talks with Lin-Manuel Miranda and members of the Original Broadway Cast.

History
The ornate United Palace opened in 1930 as the Loew’s 175th Street Theatre, a deluxe movie theatre and vaudeville house, the last of the five Wonder Theatres in New York City and New Jersey. Its first act as a movie theatre ended in April 1969 with a screening of “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

With a groundswell of community support and our good friend, patron, and neighbor Lin-Manuel Miranda, movies returned to the United Palace in 2013. Since then we have screened over 100 feature films, from world premieres (“In the Heights” and “Halftime” as part of the Tribeca Festival) to all-time classics (“It’s A Wonderful Life”), to community favorites (the documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom” about local school children winning a citywide dance contest).

We honor the theatre’s original use as a vaudeville house and movie palace by curating screenings of classic movies with live entertainment thematically linked to the film, such as mini concerts, dance performances, fashion shows, or speakers. UPCA partners with Lin-Manuel and his family for many of these screenings, inviting special guests such as Rita Moreno (“West Side Story”), Steven Spielberg (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Spike Lee (“Do the Right Thing”), and Hugh Jackman (“The Greatest Showman”).

Our goal is to have the cinematic experience come alive for audiences too used to watching movies on their phones or TVs.

One of our highest compliments came from Robert DeNiro who, speaking before a 50th anniversary screening of “The Godfather,” described watching a movie at the United Palace as: “The moviegoing experience doesn’t get any better.”

Hint for the Average Socialite: Free tickets will be available on March 3.

Deets: The Electric State is a spectacular sci-fi adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Enola Holmes, Damsel)  stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.

The Electric State is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Brown, Pratt, Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk lend their talents as the voices of the robots. The film is based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag with a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

February 26
11AM-3PM / Union Square, Broadway & 17th, Pedestrian Plaza
5:30PM-7:30PM / Madison Square Garden | W 33rd & 7th Ave

Deets: Hulu’s 10 episode series “Deli Boy” will premiere on Hulu on March 6, 2025. When their convenience store-magnate father suddenly dies, a pair of pampered Pakistani American brothers (Asif Ali, Saagar Shaikh) lose everything and are forced to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime as they attempt to take up his mantle in the underworld.

To celebrate the premiere, the show’s signature mix of snacks and crime comes to life with an immersive pop-up experience.

Hulu is bringing the underground world of Deli Boys to life with a pop-up experience in New York City. The Traveling Deli resembles a fully lived-in space, complete with flickering neon lights, cracked tile floors and questionably-filled pickle jars. Step inside and you’ll find all the commotion and criminal antics you could want alongside exclusive photo opportunities, show-themed swag, specialty drinks and a menu of snacks for free sampling that might raise a few eyebrows (in a good way) while supplies last.

The Deli Boys tour kicks off in the bodega capital of the world: New York City. It’s a place that embodies the show’s blend of pandemonium, humor and—let’s be honest—some questionable deli practices. First, the Traveling Deli truck will roll into Union Square, where you can step up to the window, order a snack and snap some photos. But pro tip: Don’t ask for anything too specific. You might just get more than you bargained for. (Or, you might get something surprisingly delicious. Either way, it’s a gamble.) Later that night, the truck heads to Madison Square Garden, where things will get even more chaotic during the Knicks vs. 76ers game. Forget your usual halftime snack run of soda and fries. The Truck is filled with deli-themed drinks and snacks for sampling that you'll be thinking about long after the game ends.

Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is free and open to the public.

Stream all episodes of Deli Boys on March 6, only on Hulu.

This Valentine’s Day, Oscar® winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Loki) rockets into his first major leading man role as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret that he is desperate to leave behind. Spoiler alert: He won’t.

From 87North—producers of the groundbreaking action films Nobody, Violent Night, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde and The Fall Guy—comes a visceral, high-octane story of wrath and revenge.

Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb Raider, Warcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.

Deets: Join legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg and actress Drew Barrymore for an illuminating conversation before a presentation of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982).

Celebrated for its Oscar-winning special effects, sweeping musical score, and rich emotional palette, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial began as a highly personal project for director Steven Spielberg. After his parents’ divorce, a teenaged Spielberg conceived an imaginary friend — an alien — to help cope with loneliness. Twenty years later, and far from home during location shooting for Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), he was inspired to turn his childhood memories into a film. At the center of E.T. is Elliott (Henry Thomas), a ten-year-old child of divorce who discovers an odd-looking alien, left behind by his family in the forests of California, and brings him home. E.T.’s presence leads to a series of sometimes comic, sometimes frightening adventures, and — perhaps most unexpectedly for Elliott — deep empathy and friendship. Rounding out the cast are Dee Wallace and Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore in her first major film role. As E.T. tells Elliott, while pointing a glowing finger toward the boy’s mind, “I’ll be right here.”

This program replaces the previously announced conversation with Meryl Streep and 40th anniversary screening of Out of Africa, which has been cancelled due to the devastating fires in Los Angeles.

Deets: Join actress, entrepreneur, and award-winning talk show host Drew Barrymore and TCM host Jacqueline Stewart for a conversation about Drew’s love of classic film, featuring a screening of Twentieth Century (1934), starring her grandfather, John Barrymore.

When John Barrymore asked director Howard Hawks why he wanted him to play histrionic theatrical impresario Oscar Jaffe in this trailblazing screwball comedy, Hawks replied, “It’s the story of the biggest ham on Earth, and you’re the biggest ham I know.” Barrymore accepted on the spot and quickly bonded with the director. This was the first of Hawks’ great comedies and one of the first Hollywood films in which glamorous stars like Barrymore and Carole Lombard made fools of themselves on camera. It was also hailed as a departure from Barrymore’s run of dramatic and swashbuckling roles in films like Don Juan (1926) and Grand Hotel (1932). When Lombard, cast as the rebellious star Barrymore needs for his next production, had trouble capturing the film’s comic spirit, Hawks and her co-star worked tirelessly to get her to loosen up. With Barrymore’s help, Lombard became a top star, often hailed as “The Daffy Duse.”
