Deets: Join us for a celebration of environmental messaging in the media.
Now more than ever, we must harness the power of storytelling to call for environmental justice, climate action, and sustainability.
EMA continues its mission to provide a unified voice for our planet through entertainment, storytelling, and education. Our goal: empower a circular green economy for all people, which means environmental justice for the most vulnerable communities.
Environmental Media Association (EMA) is thrilled to announce this year’s EMA Awards Gala honorees including 21st century global pop-phenomenon Billie Eilish, her mother and environment advocate, Maggie Baird, and accomplished actress and businesswoman, Nikki Reed. The distinguished celebration, honoring globally recognized trailblazers and productions for their tireless work protecting the planet, will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Los Angeles.
Academy Award and Grammy Award winning artist Billie Eilish will be acknowledged alongside her mother, Maggie Baird, for the first time at the intimate awards ceremony. They will join an extensive list of remarkable talent and fellow environmental activists recognized by EMA over the years. EMA will bestow the mother-daughter duo with the EMA Missions in Music Award for their incredible work as role models for sustainable behaviors, including Billie’s current Happier Than Ever, The World Tour. Together they created “Overheated,” an extra component with climate-focused activities like clothing swaps, documentary screenings and veganism talks to communicate issues around sustainable fashion and encourage fans to participate. It was organized in collaboration with Baird’s charity Support + Feed, which tackles food insecurity and the climate crisis with plant-based food.
An eco, climate and animal advocate for over 40 years, Baird is an inspiration to all, but especially to her daughter who has followed in her mother’s footsteps as an accomplished environmental champion. Their passion to implement positive change for the planet makes both Billie and Maggie the perfect pair for this EMA Award. Past Mission in Music Award honorees include Willie Nelson, Adam Levine, Don Henley, Diane Warren, Alanis Morissette, and Dave Mathews.
Actress, entrepreneur, environmental advocate, and long-standing EMA Board Member, Nikki Reed, has earned the 2022 EMA Innovator Award for her eco-friendly lifestyle and jewelry brand, BaYou With Love. Reed focuses on sustainable, ethical fashion and production, conscious sourcing and supporting local artisans in order to reuse resources and work towards zero waste. Past innovators who have also received the award include Van Jones, John Paul DeJoria, and Karla Welch.
The esteemed event recognizes leaders advocating for a greener planet as well as productions following green practices and films, television series and documentaries harnessing the power of storytelling to call for environmental justice, climate action, and sustainability. Guests at this year’s event will once again be entertained by friend of the organization and international DJ Samantha Ronson and enjoy delicious plant-based, locally sourced cuisine from Nic’s on Beverly. The host for the special evening will be announced closer to the gala date.
