Deets: Beautycon LA was back for their 5th Anniversary!

Day 1 Festival Highlights:

  • Priyanka Chopra discussed her path to marry in her 30’s, “I took choices in my life where my career mattered to me and I hadn’t met the right guy yet. I wasn’t going to settle because I have a biological clock.”

  • When discussing how women are often pitted against one another, Chopra said “The more I champion women in my own small way maybe I’ll be able to create a world where women run the show” she believes the crux of the problem is there are fewer opportunities for women, I feel like, over time, because women had the lack of opportunities, we were pitted against each other. Because there were only five places a woman could be hired and so we were elbowing each other out to get to that one spot.”

  • Kelly Rowland spoke about being happier and healthier than ever, “2019 Kelly Rowland is full of joy. I’m happy in my skin. Secure in being myself and understanding womanhood, motherhood, wifehood… I’m in a constant state of learning every day.”

  • On the evolution of representation in the fashion industry: “I remember wanting to see texture and wanting to see brown… seeing a magazine cover saying this is what beauty looks like and it was three white women with blonde hair… we still have a way to go

  • French Montana touched on the importance of women in his life during his fireside chat with CEO of Beautycon, Moj Mahdara,my whole team is full of women, women take care of you and [they] do it from the heart if they love you. I came from a single mother home, boys grow more love for their mother.”

  • Montana addressed looking Muslim in the industry and the pressure he feels, “The struggle is the struggle. Everybody has a struggle. When I got here I didn’t have papers...I'm just glad Donald Trump wasn't the president then.”

Day 2 Festival Highlights:

  • Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and CEO, Ciara sat down with Arianna Huffington to discuss confidence and leveling up, “there is a power to loving yourself and taking care of yourself. If you love yourself, you can love others the right way and get the love you deserve from others.”

  • On having power with a purpose, Liza Koshy expressed, You are not a number. You have power and purpose...whatever you have, promote it and preach it.”

  • Megan Thee Stallion defined hot girl summer during her fireside chat this weekend, “Being a hot girl means that you are just a bad ass bitch, you're turning it up and having a good time, you can do what you want to do. Be a hot girl.”

  • Yalitza Aparicio on our current climate and representing the voice of idigeous women, “My primary goal is to make roads for others to outperform and outdo everything I've done so far. It is not my individual strength but strength of my people and my fans to take this on together. We all have the responsibility to be vocal and outspoken for our people and fight for equality.”

  • Arianna Huffington urged the crowd to say something great that they want to declare while putting on their makeup and three things the audience is grateful for as they take off their makeup each day.
