Deets: The National Cherry Blossom Festival, in partnership with Washington, D.C. officials, Festival sponsors, and stakeholders, announced plans for the return of its iconic springtime celebration and revealed 2022 official artwork crafted by local artist Lea Craigie-Marshall. With only 131 days until spring, Festival President Diana Mayhew announced that the Festival's signature events will be back in person March 20 - April 17, 2022.

OPENING CEREMONY
The National Cherry Blossom Festival’s signature Opening Ceremony is an artistic celebration of the 1912 gift of trees from Tokyo to Washington, D.C., and an annual tribute to the longstanding friendship between Japan and the United States. This unique, one-time-only performance will feature special performances from acclaimed artists with ties to both countries.

BLOSSOM KITE FESTIVAL
Rediscover the joy of kite flying back on the Washington Monument grounds, at featured parks, and at home in 2022! The Blossom Kite Festival is a long-standing DC tradition encouraging attendees of all ages fly kites among the cherry blossom trees. The iconic outdoor event is fun, free, and open to the public. This year will feature both virtual and in-person options so that you can fly your kite from your favorite neighborhood park or anywhere across the globe. Regardless of how you celebrate spring, join us in flying a kite during the last weekend of March.
THE NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PARADE
One of DC’s largest spectator events is back in 2022! The energy-filled Parade runs for 10 blocks along iconic Constitution Avenue Northwest. Grand colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands from across the country, celebrity entertainers, and performers burst down the Parade route in a spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the Festival!
Portions of the parade are free to the public to view along the route and are first-come, first-serve. Tickets are available for reserved grandstand seating in the performance areas of the Parade. Purchase your tickets today — they make an unforgettable gift for loved ones!
PETALPALOOZA
Celebrate spring at the National Cherry Blossom Festival‘s Petalpalooza for a full day of live music and engaging activities!
This day-long all-ages celebration brings art, music, and play to multiple outdoor stages, interactive art installations, a beer garden, family-friendly hands-on activities, and more, all along the banks of the Anacostia River. The evening is capped by a dazzling fireworks show set to music.
This event is FREE and fun for all ages.
