RECAP

Le Diner en Blanc-Washington returned to DC this August for its seventh edition after a pandemic pause. This year’s pop-up picnic in white took over Pennsylvania Avenue, NW on Saturday, August 21 for another unforgettable night of friendship, elegance and fun. More than 4,500 guests, donning their best summer whites, met at departure points throughout the city, which all converged at Pennsylvania Avenue (between 3rd and 6th Streets, NW) just before dusk for the sole purpose of sharing a gourmet meal with good friends in one of the city’s most celebrated locations.

Guests were greeted upon arrival by local brass ensemble DuPont Brass. Toting elegant white picnic baskets filled to the brim with gourmet treats, they set up their tables and chairs and created unique table decor designs, including elegant chandeliers, miniature lighted Eiffel Towers, white parasols, and lanterns with sparkling lights. As soon as all table settings were perfected, the beginning of dinner was signalled by the traditional waving of white linen serviettes with a special kickoff this year by John Falcicchio, DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Sandy Safi, co-founder of Le Diner en Blanc International and Sybongile Cook, Director of Business Development and Strategy for DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.

Guests also enjoyed several experiential, “Instagram-worthy” elements to Le Dîner en Blanc DC, including installations that included men and women on stilts with lighted wings. Music filled the air throughout dinner, while guests dined and enjoyed the company of friends. After dinner, thousands of blazing sparklers signaled the opening of the dance floor, with an energetic performance by DJ Honey. An afterparty for all guests took place at the new YOTEL Washington DC’s Deck 11 rooftop pool and lounge.
