Deets: In February 2020, legendary Russian prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova makes her long-anticipated USA debut. Acclaimed from London to Sydney, from Johannesburg to Paris, Kolesnikova brings together guest artists from the world’s leading ballet companies in the spellbinding St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s production of Tchaikovsky’s SWAN LAKE. Irina Kolesnikova has a wealth of superlative credits attesting to her mastery. As Odette-Odile, the role that is her personal trademark, she is unique. RECAP
St Petersburg Ballet’s Swan Lake, especially prima ballerina, Irina Kolesnikova, did not disappoint! Even for someone who is new to watching ballet, Irina’s grace and technical expertise noticeably dominated the stage and captured the audience. Her transformation between the innocent white swan Odette and black swan Odile allowed for the portrayal of both characters to be distinctly different. I’m only even more impressed knowing that she recently gave birth to her first child in 2014 and insists on traveling with her daughter while on tour.
The set and costumes were quite impressive, especially for touring company. Despite a few techincal difficulties with the music, the performance received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience at the National Theatre. The show was truly one to remember and is perfect for new watchers and seasoned appreciators of ballet!
