Looking for a tasty way to cool down this summer? Below are some unique ice cream shops that’ll help you and your friends beat the NYC heat.
Whipped Urban Dessert Lab
95 Orchard St / Manhattan
Whipped is their name and oat milk based ice cream is their game. Even though they have two flavors, their iconic crumb coat toppings and sauces are what elevate this experience. You can even order online by the pint or try their signature ice cream truffles!
Tipsy Scoop
Manhattan & Brooklyn
If you need a little something extra in your ice cream, Tipsy Scoop is for you! Their claim to fame is their combination of both ice cream and booze, giving you the best of both worlds. They not only have a store in Brooklyn, but also in Manhattan, Queens, Long Beach, and more!
Egger’s ice Cream Parlor
441 Clarke Ave / Staten Island
Serving up classic ice cream since 1964, Eggers has earned its place as a Staten Island staple. With new flavors of ice cream every month and even a new dairy free selection, you’re sure to find a delicious, classic treat to enjoy.
Oddfellows
334 Furman Street, Pier 5 / Brooklyn
Oddfellows thrives on creativity with making their ice cream. Flavors like chocolate and vanilla are staple, sure, but why not try miso peanut butter brownie, or for the super adventurous: olive oil! Flavors swap out every once in a while, so make sure to keep an eye out for your favorites!
Eddie’s Sweet Shop
105-29 Metropolitan Ave / Queens
If you’re ready for a throwback, head on down to this almost century old ice cream parlor. What they serve up is classic sundaes with huge scoops of ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and of course, a cherry on top. There are also a small assortment of other old fashion candies you can purchase as well.
Mikey Likes It Ice Cream
2500 Frederick Douglass Blvd / Manhattan
Mikey’s may keep it simple, but a lot of heart goes into his flavors. Many of his flavors are based on pop culture references, like a strawberry and cheesecake flavor dubbed Pink floyd, or a banana pudding flavor called Brady Bunch. Not satisfied with just a few scoops? Try the Mac Daddy or the Daddy Mac: a half waffle ice cream sandwich or a full waffle ice cream sandwich respectively.
Lickety Split
295 City Island Ave / Bronx
If you need a sweet treat on the beach, lickety split is perfect! After you are charmed by the adorable, whimsical exterior, head on in to make your selection. The ice cream flavors are classic and delicious, and if you want something different, they also serve gelato, shakes, frozen yogurt, and sorbet.
Republic of Booza
76 N 4th St / Brooklyn
You might think, what is Booza exactly? Doesn’t sound like ice cream. Well, dear socialite, it is, in fact. Some could describe it as a gelato so thick you can manipulate it with your hands, and that’s exactly what this brooklyn joint specializes in. Because this delicious treat doesn’t have air incorporated into it like normal ice cream, the flavors, like blackberry, chocolate, and pistachio, are more concentrated.
Sam’s Fried Ice Cream
37 Orchard St / Manhattan
Even though it sounds like an oxymoron, fried ice cream is an out of this world, indulgent treat. Balls of completely frozen ice cream are coated in batter, rolled in your crust of choice (either original or oreo), and deep fried for that perfect crust and creamy inside.
L’Arte Del Gelato
75 9th Avenue / Manhattan
In Chelsea Market lies this adorable artisan Gelato shop! Taking inspiration from 70’s Italian gelaterias, they make their gelato with all natural ingredients. Along with their more traditional flavors, they also have seasonal flavors (right now it’s panna cotta for summer), and various monthly flavors. If you want to up your dessert game, try the Affogato alla Cioccolata Calda, which is mascarpone gelato served in a cup of Italian hot chocolate. Sounds delish!
