LESLIE-LOHMAN MUSEUM OF ART CURATED SUITE IN INNSIDE BY MELIA, NYC
132 WEST 27TH STREET
NEW YORK, NY 10001
(212) 951-1000
INNSiDE by Meliá New York Nomad, the contemporary lifestyle hotel owned by Spain’s largest hotel company Meliá Hotels International, has announced a multi-faceted collaboration with The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, the only art museum in the world dedicated to LGBTQIA+ art and artists. On June 22, the hotel will unveil the first-ever curated Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art suite and new staff uniforms, both designed by multidisciplinary artist Tura Oliveira.
The partnership will debut at INNSiDE by Meliá’s Live For The Arts, an international arts and cultural event that has taken place in Spain and Germany. Live For The Arts is a celebration of connecting cultures through arts, literature and music. This special New York pride edition will bring together artists and creators in the LGBTQIA+ community with the international network of Meliá Hotels International to honor the queer community’s contributions to the arts.
Now in its second year hosted in New York, INNSiDE by Meliá’s Live For The Arts will continue to bridge together cultures, with future events slated for Liverpool on June 17, Berlin in September and Mallorca in October.
Tura Oliveira was selected to curate the first-ever Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art suite and a redesign of the hotel staff uniforms. A multidisciplinary artist and performer based in Brooklyn, Oliveira uses textiles, video, installation, and performance to explore labor, science fiction, and queer futurity.
Oliveira thoughtfully designed a vibrant palette of custom artworks and murals that will transform the living room of the suite into an Edenic space. The bedroom will be converted to a dreamy, celestial cosmic realm featuring a figurative quilt of hand dyed fabric acting as the centerpiece of the room. The suite will also feature many of Oliveira’s original textiles and furniture created in collaboration with artists Dave Bordett and Poppy Deltadawn. With vintage textiles and natural light from the large private terrace, guests will be immersed into a unique narrative with a warm and inviting ambiance.
Her custom creations for the space were influenced by science fiction films and novels, including Octavia Butler’s Xenogenesis, Alien, Nausicaä, The Thing, Ender’s Game, and the work of Sam Delany and Ursula K Le Güin. Some of these books will also be on display for guests to peruse during their stay.
To continue to bring Oliveira’s creative visions to life, she has redesigned a new uniform for the INNSiDE by Meliá New York Nomad team. This colorful canvas crew neck graphic tee will be worn by all staff. The graphic tee will be available for purchase in the lobby at the hotel.
This summer, guests can book a stay in the themed suite, immersing themselves in Oliveira’s creations which represent the values of queer community, affirmation and futurity that the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art continues to uphold. The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art curated suite is available for bookings from June 23 - September 22, 2023. Rates start at $399 per night and include complimentary tickets to The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art.
