We had the opportunity to interview Author & CEO Pamela Ayuso about what readers can find in her new business book Heptagram: The 7-Pillar Business Design System for the 21st Century.

Q: What can readers expect to learn from Heptagram: The 7-Pillar Business Design System for the 21st Century?

A: Readers can expect to learn how to build a business that operates consistently and is structured according to its needs and environment. At the same time, the company will ideally be adaptable and can evolve, leaving room for learning and growth. Leaders will have a business design system that they can adjust to their individual realities.

Q: What inspired you to write Heptagram?

A: I struggled as a young entrepreneur and business leader even though I had business degrees. I could not find a guide that I could follow as I built a company, and I went through much experimentation and research. My company, Celaque, became my laboratory. When I was ready, I wrote the book I wish I had had during that time to share that knowledge with others who were going through the same challenges.

Q: Can you expand on your background and what has led you to this career path?

A: I studied accounting and finance at Ithaca College and then obtained a master’s degree in international finance from Columbia University. I never thought I would end up working in real estate, but I have loved it from the moment I started in that industry. As I progressed in my career, I had to learn more and more about how to build and manage a company.

Q: What advice would you give other females business leaders and entrepreneurs and/or the younger generation starting their careers?

A: Be persistent and disciplined – grow a little bit better every day. The path is not easy, but after a while, the doors will start to open so that you can achieve what you set out to do. Also, if there is an obstacle in your way, use your creativity to find a way around it. There is always a way; it is just a matter of thinking differently.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?

A:
My main inspiration comes from my three daughters. They give me the motivation to become better. I also draw a lot of inspiration from nature. I take frequent walks among the trees and the plants. It gives me peace and strength.

Q: What do you hope the next years will look like in a post-covid world?

A: I hope we return to a world where we can be free to go out and engage with life as we did before, but that we carry the lessons we learned from the pandemic. Personally, the pandemic taught me what truly mattered and to better balance where I spend my time.
