Affair: WDCH Dreams

When: Friday, September 28- October 6, 2018 @ 7:30-11:30PM every 30 minutes

Hot Spot: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, CA

Deets: The Los Angeles Philharmonic has collaborated with media artist Refik Anadol to celebrate our history and explore our future. Using Google’s machine-intelligence tools, Anadol has applied custom algorithms to the LA Phil digital archives – 45 terabytes of data. The results are stunning visualizations for WDCH Dreams, a project that is both a week-long art installation projected onto the building’s exterior and a season-long immersive exhibition inside, in the Ira Gershwin Gallery.

For WDCH Dreams, the LA Phil is collaborating with media artist Refik Anadol to celebrate our history and explore our future. Using Google’s machine-intelligence tools, Anadol is applying custom algorithms to the LA Phil digital archives, allowing unprecedented access to the orchestra’s past in non-traditional ways. This public art installation will project transformed archival materials onto the exterior of Walt Disney Concert Hall in animated, data-driven patterns, seeming to give consciousness to the architectural landmark.

WDCH Dreams will have a performance every half-hour, starting at 7:30pm with the last one at 11:30pm. Performances are 12 minutes long.

WDCH Dreams Companion Installation
Inside Walt Disney Concert Hall, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a companion installation. The compact Ira Gershwin Gallery will be transformed into a U-shaped, mirrored, and interactive gallery space, where attendees will be able to manipulate – and even “fly through” – a futuristic universe made up of thousands of LA Phil performances and millions of memories going all the way back to 1919. The lines between past and present, as well as virtual and physical reality, will blur as a century of music-making speeds by.

The Ira Gershwin Gallery opens to the public on September 28 and will remain open throughout the Centennial season. Visitors can reserve times to access the gallery via The Music Center’s self-guided tour schedule weekdays from 10am – 3pm. Ticket holders to any concert during the Centennial season can access the gallery 90 minutes prior to performances.

Hint For The Average Socialite: FREE and open to the public!
