Deets: On April 18th, WE hosted Party with a Purpose, in partnership with PacSun, to celebrate WE Day on April 19th. WE Day is the world’s largest youth empowerment event of its kind bringing together world-renowned speakers, A-list performers, and tens of thousands of youth to celebrate a year of action that transformed communities and changed lives. Party with a Purpose gathered WE activists and celebrity ambassadors at West Hollywood hot spot Peppermint Club to celebrate the incredible impacts WE is making to affect change across North America and the world.
The evening kicked off with an opening speech from co-founder of WE Craig Kielburger, followed by special guest speakers: digital influencer and women's equality activist Lilly Singh and international model and body positivity activist Winnie Harlow and concluded with a performance from dvsn, an R&B duo signed to Drake’s OVO label.
In celebration of living with purpose and creating positive change, guests customized “My Why” T-shirts with the help of LA-based graffiti artist Teachr, an accomplished and prolific street artist, to illustrate their motivation for making an impact in the world (i.e. world hunger, women’s empowerment, clean water, poverty, etc.) Throughout the night, guests were able to meet with WE co-founders Craig Kielburger and Marc Kielburgeralong with WE’s incredible activists and celebrity ambassadors while toasting to the change WE has affected over the last year.
Highlights from the event included:
- Lilly Singh gave a heartfelt speech sharing her “WHY” (reason for getting involved with WE Movement) and details from a ME to WE trip to Kenya that supported access to education for girls through her #GirlLove Rafiki bracelets.
- Longtime ME to WE ambassador, Winnie Harlow, gave an empowering speech about her personal story and her experience with WE. She discussed her projects and work to make a positive impact on the world.
- Winnie also spoke about her involvement in launching the ME to WE Mother’s Day Collection. Guests received the collection in their gift bags, which includes ethically sourced Semi-Precious gemstones.
- dvsn gave a standout performance of Hallucinations.
Party with a Purpose was also the official launch of PacSun’s “My Why” campaign, which will run in-store and online. Customers can purchase ME to WE product to help change the life of a child or family in a developing community overseas.
