Hot Spot: Kaufman Concert Hall, NYC
Deets: Actor Jake Gyllenhaal joins Reel Pieces Moderator Annette Insdorf for an onstage conversation — including film clips — followed by a screening of Stronger (David Gordon Green, dir., 2017, 2 hours).
Jake Gyllenhaal’s superlative work as an actor ranges from Donny Darko, Lovely and Amazing, Brokeback Mountain (Oscar nomination), Jarhead, Zodiac, Love & Other Drugs (Golden Globe nomination), to such intense dramas as End of Watch (which he also produced), Prisoners, Nightcrawler (SAG & BAFTA nominations) and Nocturnal Animals. He also starred on Broadway in the recent revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George.
In Stronger, directed by David Gordon Green, he plays a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The true story of Jeff Bauman is an inspirational drama that includes powerful performances from Miranda Richardson as his hard-drinking, working-class mother and Tatiana Maslany as his girlfriend. Justin Chang wrote in the LA Times about Gyllenhaal, “It’s one of the actor’s most restrained, affecting performances.”
