Hot Spot: Grand Avenue, between Temple Street & 6th Street, Downtown Los Angeles, CA
Deets: After a very successful inaugural event in 2015, Grand Ave Arts: All Access returns to put a spotlight on the world-class arts and cultural organizations located on Grand Avenue between Temple and 6th Streets. Last year the event welcomed over 10,000 people who enjoyed programs and behind-the-scenes access to some of L.A.’s most prestigious cultural organizations. Grand Ave Arts: All Access is a collaborative, community-inspired endeavor initiated by participating institutions to highlight and celebrate their commitment to the cultural landscape of Los Angeles and provide free access to both world-class architecture and programming in the visual, performing and literary arts. The one-day, free community event will feature performances, exhibitions, behind-the-scenes tours, and interactive, family-friendly activities. Area restaurants and cafes at participating venues will offer food and beverages, and a selection of food trucks parked in Grand Park and adjacent to MOCA will provide additional dining options. The complete programming schedule will be announced in September.
The Broad
The Broad is a new contemporary art museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The museum is designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler and offers free general admission. The museum is home to the 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide. With its innovative “veil-and-vault” concept, the 120,000-square-foot, $140-million building features two floors of gallery space to showcase The Broad’s comprehensive collection and is the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library.
Center Theatre Group
Center Theatre Group serves the diverse audiences of Los Angeles by producing and presenting theatre of the highest caliber, by nurturing new artists, by attracting new audiences, and by developing youth outreach and arts education programs. Colburn School
The Colburn School comprises four academic units united by a single philosophy that all who have a desire to study the performing arts should have the opportunity and access to excellent training. The degree-granting Conservatory of Music, the open enrollment Community School of Performing Arts, the Music Academy for pre-college musicians, and the pre-professional Dance Academy, a program of the Colburn School’s Trudl Zipper Dance Institute, provide training to over 2,000 students from the Los Angeles area and across the world. The renowned teachers, performers, and scholars that make up Colburn’s dedicated faculty serve as invaluable mentors to guide students’ artistic development.
Grand Park
A vibrant outdoor gathering place, Grand Park is a beautiful public park for the entire community in Los Angeles County. With expansive green space for gatherings large and small, Grand Park celebrates the county’s cultural vitality and is host to community events, cultural experiences, holiday celebrations, and many other activities that engage and attract visitors from all communities. The 12-acre Grand Park stretches from The Music Center on the west to City Hall on the east, and is easily accessible by Metro via the Red/Purple line to the Civic Center/Grand Park station. The park was named one of American Planning Association’s 10 “Great Public Spaces” in the U.S. for 2013. LA Opera
LA Opera seeks to serve the public with world-class performances that preserve and advance the art form while embodying the dynamic spirit of the community that it calls home. Founded in 1986, LA Opera is the fourth largest opera company in the United States, even though it is by far the youngest of the country’s major opera companies. Two of opera’s most highly respected performers are in charge of its artistic leadership. Plácido Domingo—who has performed in every LA Opera season since its inaugural production in 1986—has led the company as its general director since 2003. The celebrated conductor James Conlon joined the company as music director in 2007. Recognized as a leader in its commitment to expanding the definition of standard repertory—with a special commitment to contemporary works—LA Opera brings together world-renowned singers along with extraordinary artists from the worlds of cinema, fine art, theater and dance to interpret the classical and the new for its audiences.
Los Angeles Central Library
A recipient of the nation’s highest honor for library service—the National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Los Angeles Public Library serves the largest and most diverse urban population of any library in the nation. The Richard J. Riordan Central Library in downtown Los Angeles is both a leading public research library and a major architectural landmark.
Los Angeles Master Chorale
Now in its 52nd season as a resident company of The Music Center and 14th Season as the resident chorus at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Grammy-nominated Los Angeles Master Chorale is led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon. Presenting its own concert series each season, the Master Chorale performs choral music from the earliest writings to the most recent contemporary compositions. To date, the choir has commissioned 47 and premiered 94 new works, of which 64 were world premieres. In addition, the Master Chorale performs frequently with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at both Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. It has also appeared at the Ojai Music Festival, the Great Performers series at Lincoln Center, and the Ravinia Festival, among other leading venues around the country. Its recent discography includes eight albums, five under Gershon’s direction. The Master Chorale Serves more than 30,000 audience members of all ages annually and provides education outreach to more than 9,000 students each year.
Los Angeles Philharmonic
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music from all genres – orchestral, chamber and Baroque music, organ and celebrity recitals, new music, jazz, world music and pop – at two of L.A.’s iconic venues, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. The LA Phil’s season at Walt Disney Concert Hall extends from September through May, and throughout the summer at the Hollywood Bowl. With the preeminent Los Angeles Philharmonic at the foundation of its offerings, the LA Phil aims to enrich and transform lives through music, with a robust mix of artistic, education and community programs.
MOCA
Founded in 1979, MOCA’s vision is to be the defining museum of contemporary art. The Music Center

REDCAT
REDCAT, CalArts’ downtown center for contemporary arts, presents an international mix of innovative visual, performing and media arts.
