Deets: The only thing harder than winning a championship is winning it again. And when it comes to the 2016 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, as many as nine past winners could be competing at Santa Anita on November 4-5. This year marks a record ninth time that Santa Anita will host the Breeders’ Cup, one of Thoroughbred racing’s most prestigious international events, consisting of 13 races and purses totaling $26 million over two days at one of the world’s most scenic racing venues.

Songbird and Tepin, probable favorites for the Longines Distaff and Mile, respectively, headline the deep cast along with the remarkable Beholder, who will attempt to join Goldikova as the only three-time winner in the event’s 32-year history. Heroine of the 2012 Juvenile Fillies and 2013 Distaff, the 6-year-old is readying for a Longines Distaff return after being forced to miss the last two editions of the Breeders’ Cup.

The 33rd Breeders’ Cup begins on Friday, November 4 with a total of 10 races, four of them Breeders’ Cup World Championships races. There will be five Santa Anita Park races preceding the first Breeders’ Cup race, with post time of the first race at 11:25 a.m. PT.
