Deets: Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon 2016.The event, in partnership with Lifetime Television, gathered an intimate group of Hollywood’s most philanthropic women who have been selected as Variety’s “Lifetime Impact Honorees.” Through their humanitarian efforts, these women have made a significant difference in their chosen causes. Variety’s Power of Women event is tied to its annual Women’s Impact Report, which profiles the most impactful women working in the entertainment industry this year. Each of the honorees were featured on the front cover of the Women’s Impact issue of Variety on October 11th. The Power of Women event, which expanded two years ago to include a New York City luncheon in the spring, is now in its eighth year.
This year’s honorees included Laverne Cox, star of Fox’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” CBS’s “Doubt” and Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” (National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs; singer, songwriter, and actressMiley Cyrus (Happy Hippie Foundation), Ava DuVernay, acclaimed director of the upcoming Netflix documentary “13th and Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time” (1000 Black Girl Books), Academy Award® , Emmy Award® and Tony Award® winning actress Helen Mirren, star of “Eye in the Sky” and “Collateral Beauty” (The Stuttering Association for the Young) and Scarlett Johansson, star of the upcoming film “Ghost In The Shell” (Planned Parenthood). This year’s Moroccanoil Inspiration To Action award was given to co-founder and designer, Georgina Chapman of Marchesa. The Variety 2016 EmPOWerment Award was given to Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO, Sir Lucian Grainge and Variety honored Spanx Founder Sara Blakely with its inaugural Innovation & Leadership honor for her work in creating The Sara Blakely Foundation and empowering women in the workplace.
Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) emceed the event.
