Hot Spot: Randall's Island Park, NYC

Deets:
The Brew Hop held their first annual 5K + Craft Beer Festival, at Randall's Island Park on Sunday, September 18th! 1500 people were in attendance to taste beers from breweries such as Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint Brewery, Bronx Brewery, Rockaway Brewing, KelSo Beer Company, Alphabet City Brewing, Blue Point Brewing Company,  Captain Lawrence Brewing Company and more!

The Brew Hop is a brand new event that gives attendees the chance to combine their love for running and craft beer, aiming to build a bridge between two seemingly unrelated yet perfectly compatible pastimes. The day starts off with a 5K race (Registration @ 10am | Race @ 12pm) followed by a festival from 12:30pm - 4pm for attendees to indulge in the best beer and food New York City has to offer. Runners will receive a congratulatory medal at the end of the race! For those interested in solely partaking in the post-race festivities, there is a 'Beer Fest Only' ticket available for purchase. VIP tickets are also available for purchase, which will grant access to a private lounge area with wait staff to get beers for you, free massages, private bathrooms, exclusive food and beer offerings, and a limited edition poster. All attendees will enjoy complimentary beer samples with their ticket purchase, along with a tasting glass, koozie, and other surprises from participating breweries. The post-race festival will feature live music, lawn games, brewery row, art installations, local food trucks, vendor village, and seating areas. In addition to the participating NY breweries, attendees will also enjoy beverages from Crabbie's Ginger Beer and SpikedSeltzer.

With excitement towards the upcoming festival, Co-Founder of Peak Projects, Joey Garofalo explains, "It's only fitting that the home of the most iconic races and some of the best beers in the country has an event that ties them all together. We're honored to be able to contribute to New York City's craft beer and running scenes and hope this event will become a staple in both communities for years to come."

The event will benefit City Harvest, the world's first food rescue organization, by donating 10% of the proceeds directly to the charity. There will also be a food drive on-site for attendees who wish to bring nonperishable food items to donate. City Harvest pioneered food rescue in 1982, and this year, will collect 55 million pounds of excess food to help feed the 1.4 million New Yorkers struggling to put meals on their tables. Through relationships with farms, restaurants, grocers, and manufacturers, City Harvest collects nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries, and other community food programs across the five boroughs. City Harvest takes a long-term approach to hunger relief through its Healthy Neighborhoods initiative. For more information, please visit www.cityharvest.org.
