Affair: LongHouse Reserve celebrates 25 years with Jubilee Year Summer Benefit, SERIOUS MOONLIGHT

When: Saturday, July 23, 2016 @ 6PM-11PM

Hot Spot: LongHouse Reserve, East Hampton, NY

Deets: 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of LongHouse Reserve. At SERIOUS MOONLIGHT on Saturday, July 23rd, many of the artists and art lovers that the Foundation has honored will in turn be honoring founder, Jack Lenor Larsen, and the future of the 16-acre treasure that is LongHouse. On the night, either on screen or in person, past honorees Bill T. Jones, Laurie Anderson, Agnes Gund, Cindy Sherman, Nico Muhly, Robert Wilson, Barbara Slifka and Dorothy Lichtenstein will be there to salute or to entertain.

Alice Waters has personally overseen the evening’s dinner menu, Christina Kim created the hand-silvered invitation and Molly Chappellet and her sister Luanne Wells(the recipients of the evening’s LongHouse Arts Patron Award) will be pairing the food with wines from Napa Valley’s famed Chappellet Vineyards. Molly is a designer, gardener, photographer, chef, entertainer, and author of five books. Luanne is the President of the Wells Family Charitable Foundation and serves as a trustee of the California Institute of the Art.

The SERIOUS MOONLIGHT dress theme of “Night Sky and Silver” will be variously interpreted by a crowd that loves to dress up – with some outfitted by Mary Jane Marcasiano and Nicole Miller. A telescope, courtesy of the Montauk Observatory, will be there for attendees to view the actual moon, and guests will be ushered through a Walking Through Time Tunnel.

Another high point of the evening will be a short premiere of the LongHouse documentary, which is being created by Checkerboard Films, and the crowning introduction of the cool and talented first ever three LongHouse Creative Scholarship winners.

The Summer Benefit Jubilee Auction will include spectacular items from past honorees, including a one-of-a-kind Blue Glass Spear sculpture from Dale Chihuly made especially for the occasion; a rare and precious drawing from Robert Wilson, Philip Glass and Lucinda Child’s Einstein on the Beach; as well as works from Cindy Sherman, Christo,Carol Cassidy, Richard Meier and Ai Weiwei. The LongHouse Auction is unique, also offering special works from the organizations favored and generous artists who exhibit on the East Hampton grounds. These talents include Grace Knowlton, Larry Rivers, Bryan Hunt, Eric Fischl, Marko Remec, Kiki Smith, Enrique Martinez Celaya, Emilia and Ilya Kabakov and Jun Kaneko. Works from these artists will be auctioned alongside those from locally admired artists Michael Dweck, April Gornik, Laurie Lambrecht, Gus Leiber, Scott Bluedorn, Johnny Swing and Jack Youngerman, and the globally admired Issey Miyake, Yoan Capote and Wafaa Bilal.

But that is not all. As the auction is winding down – the magic of the night is heating up. Great techno-pop diva Nona Hendryx will make a special sound, light and music tribute to David Bowie and when she sings “Let’s Dance”, it will be to music and dancing by Donna D’Cruz.
