Affair: The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s (The NYSPCC) Junior Committee Spring Benefit

Deets: The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) hosted its exclusive annual Junior Committee Spring Benefit yesterday at Tao Downtown. Sponsored by Golden Door, the fundraiser featured a silent auction of high-end luxury items and VIP experiences.
The NYSPCC’s Junior Committee joined Executive Director Dr. Mary L. Pulido to help raise funds for child abuse prevention and trauma recovery. Its officers and members have been an important part of the NYSPCC since 2005.
“Keeping kids safe from abuse and neglect begins with raising awareness about the issue in our communities,” said Alexandra Papanicolaou Shaheen, President of The NYSPCC’s Junior Committee. “With Golden Door supporting the Junior Committee Spring fundraiser, we’ll be able to add voices of other incredible organizations to The NYSPCC effort.”
Guests bid on silent auction items such as a Versace designer item, a gift basket from Golden Door, two round-trip tickets on Fly the Whale, tickets to see the New York Yankees, priority tickets to visit the One World Observatory, orchestra seats and champagne at the MET Opera, and tickets to NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. The spring benefit raised a total of 45k, which will be donated to help fund The NYSPCC’s programs.
The NYSPCC’s unique work serves as a model for child welfare agencies across the nation. Since its founding, The NYSPCC has investigated more than 650,000 cases on the behalf of over two million children and has educated over 46,000 professionals on how to identify and report child abuse and neglect.
In a recent column in The New York Daily News, Dr. Mary L. Pulido advocated for the enactment of the Child Victims Act. This would eliminate time limits for the prosecution of child sexual abuse in the State of New York. Dr. Pulido underscored the importance of passing this Act as victims of child abuse, in most cases, find it very difficult and overwhelming to come forward with their stories.
