Opening Weekend of the new Tate Modern, London
@Tate |
When: Friday, June 17, 2016 - Sunday, June 19, 2016
Hot Spot: Tate Modern, South Bank, London, UK
Deets: Celebrate the launch of the new Tate Modern building with three days of celebration. There will be music performances, film screenings, workshops, tours, installations and events, free and open to all.
The centrepiece of the opening weekend will be a choral work with over 500 singers from community choirs across London. This unique cycle of songs was written in response to Tate Modern’s building, its history and its place in contemporary life.
The newly refurbished Starr Cinema will hold free drop-in film screenings and throught the weekend you can join one of many ten-minute talks. The Clore Learning Galleries will host an immersive sculptural installation, paper model-making workshops and a photography showcase displaying portraits of young refugees making together with peers in Denmark, India and the UK.
A series of activities will be organised by and for young people including discussions and events with emerging artists, students and creatives. Ronan Mckenzie, Jean Jullien, Benedict Drew and RADAR radio will also host workshops and commissions.
With families in mind, visitors will be encouraged to explore the space around them through unique audio soundtracks or join in on a multimedia DIY disco. You can go on to explore the new gallery’s spaces and displays with artist-designed activities, whilst BMW Tate Live performances emerge when least expected.
