He will also provide the audience with a moving and memorable performance.
It will be a remarkable evening and one that you will not want to miss.
Omari Latif Hardwick - is an esteemed and accomplished American actor known for his key roles in several television shows & series that include “Saved”, “Dark Blue”, “Miracle at St. Anna” BET Network’s hit show “Being Mary Jane”, and over twenty five feature films such as “Sparkle”, “The A Team”, “Kick Ass”, “For Colored Girls” and “The Guardian” with Kevin Costner… He is currently the lead character; James “Ghost” St. Patrick on the critically acclaimed Starz’s Network show “Power”.
Hailing from Decatur, Georgia, Hardwick was destined to set a precedent with the intentional and deliberate naming by his parents… “Omari” which carries the meaning of “most high” and “Latif” which resounds in definition as “gentle”, helps to describe a part the multifaceted persona and tenacity of this entertainment industry titan. He excelled in several sports during his high school years including basketball, baseball and football. He also went on to play collegiate football at the University of Georgia. However it was always a love and yearning for the arts that kept one foot on the field and his heart and other foot in the arts department as he also minored in theater. After college Hardwick had a brief stint in the NFL playing for the San Diego Chargers. His pro career was cut short after a knee injury and he knew it was time for a change. Never relenting from his passion for both acting and writing he relocated to New York for acting training and eventually Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. True to the “Hollywood story”, he struggled immensely initially, and took to working odd jobs as well as substituting as a teacher to make ends meet. Even dealing with a short term of homelessness & having to live out of his car… He never gave up. Garnering help and motivation from industry veteran; Denzel Washington, Omari stayed true to his innate desire & driven ambition and remained dedicated to his dream and craft. He persevered and began to land roles in TV shows and parts in films that lead to more work, bigger roles and leading character titles…
Also remaining true to his love of writing… Omari is a dedicated and consummate poet who has penned several pieces that he has performed in front of audiences nationwide. Wanting to share his craft with other young talented writers, he created and oversees the “Blueapple Poetry Network” which is a multifaceted after school spoken word program that is available for free to interested students attending Broward County public high schools, middle schools and select elementary schools.
Overall Omari Hardwick is a true embellishment of the “new millennium renaissance man” and continues to excel and expand his art. Athlete, Artist, Poet, Activist, Actor… are only but a few of the titles used to describe what makes up who this phenomenal man has become and continues to evolve in to. We salute him today for all that he has done and continues to do, and look forward to the future as this Icon is only seemingly to be at the beginning of all that he has to share with the world.
