Deets: The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC), the world’s first child protection agency, will hold its annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, April 12 at The Pierre Hotel in Manhattan. The afternoon program will feature Mother, Actress, Author and Entrepreneur and The New York Times best-selling author, Drew Barrymore. In her powerful memoir, Wildflower, Barrymore recounts her childhood and shares funny, insightful, and profound stories from her past and present. She is dedicated to spreading the message of perseverance and letting children know that a bright future is possible. Barrymore is a passionate advocate for children. The luncheon co-chairs are Maarit Glocer, Joan Granlund, Valesca Guerrand-Hermès, Tania Higgins, Elizabeth Mayhew and Connie Newberry.

Additionally, Dr. Mary L. Pulido, Executive Director of The NYSPCC, will speak about the mission of The NYSPCC, and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Spring Luncheon program will focus on the prevention of child neglect. Neglect is the most common form of child maltreatment. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit The NYSPCC’s Trauma Recovery Program. The program offers a specialized therapeutic program for children who have experienced neglect, physical or sexual abuse, traumatic bereavement, or who have witnessed family violence.
