Affair: Chefs Behind Bars to benefit No Kid Hungry

When: Sunday, January 17, 2016 @ 2PM

Hot Spot: Prequel, Washington DC

Deets: Inside the dimly lit, industrial-style loft that houses Prequel, a restaurant incubator and speakeasy, seven local top chefs of fundraiser Chefs Behind Bars crafted cocktails for a cause and raised over $7,000 to benefit No Kid Hungry, a charity that combats childhood hunger in America by providing healthy meals to needy kids. Dapper drinks like chef James Martin’s Smokey Ash Plume dressed with fresh basil, and chef Matt Baker’s Suzy Wong Does DC topped with charred pineapple, competed alongside other tasty libations for the Judges' Choice and People's Choice award. Guests munched on savory small bites while sampling the specialty drinks and competing for a few of the exotic experiences available for bid, including a chef-led cooking class, a Peruvian vacation and a night out in New York City. As the convivial affair concluded, a philanthropic crowd cheered when chef Matt Baker was declared the People’s Choice Award winner and chef John Critchley earned the Judge’s Choice Award.

About No Kid Hungry

Nearly 16 million children in the United States face the poverty of hunger every day because they don’t get enough food to eat. No Kid Hungry connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending child hunger a national priority.

This work is accomplished through the No Kid Hungry network, consisting of private citizens, government officials, business leaders, and others that work together to develop innovative solutions that endeavor to end childhood hunger in their communities.

Through its Cooking Matters program, the No Kid Hungry campaign educates and empowers low-income families to stretch their food budgets so their kids get healthy meals at home. Cooking Matters participants learn to shop strategically, use nutrition information to make healthier food choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals.

Get Involved: Join Team No Kid Hungry! You can help No Kid Hungry ensure kids receive nourishing meals and end childhood hunger in America. Through state and city-based campaigns, we’re connecting local families with the resources they need to provide their children with enough nutritious food to thrive. Be a part of the solution and help us end hunger in your community.
