Deets: The Figure in Process: de Kooning to Kapoor 1955-2015 features masterworks by some 20 internationally renowned contemporary and modern artists. The exhibition explores the interpretation of the human figure through works made over six decades by artists from around the world, drawn from public and private Pacific Northwest and international collections.
Artists and Works
The Figure in Process presents seldom-seen paintings by modern masters such as Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud, David Hockney and Willem de Kooning, as well as sculptures by Barry X Ball, Alberto Giacometti and Anish Kapoor. A 26-foot-long canvas by contemporary German painter Jonas Burgert will be complemented by paintings from artists Lita Cabellut and Ruben Pang, on view for the first time. One of the aims of the exhibition is to combine iconic art works with those by emerging or lesser-known artists to create a vibrant interaction.
Curator
The exhibition is organized by Dr. David Anfam, a world-renowned historian of modern American art based in London, and the Senior Consulting Curator and Director of the Research Center at the Clyfford Still Museum in Colorado. He explains: “The exhibition looks at the exciting ways in which modern and contemporary artists around the globe have conceived our presence in the world—ranging from the ideal to the grotesque. Whether dissolving into the landscape, posed before the beholder with formal rigor, elevated to the most monumental proportions or treated intimately, artists of our time have ceaselessly reinvented the figure, and, therefore, our sense of the self.”
