Deets: Welcome to Me is a melodramatic comedy which takes aim at modern narcissism, the infomercial and romance. Alice Krieg (Kristen Wiig) suffers from personality disorder, and is uninterested in continuing with her meds despite the advice of her therapist (Tim Robbins). When she wins the lottery, Alice, whose dream is to be Oprah, decides to take her life into a totally different place – she creates a daytime talk/dramatic re-creation show (the title refers to the name of her show) that is unlike anything on the air. In bringing Eliot Laurence’s script to the screen, director Shira Piven’s admirable goal is to make a film about a compelling but not altogether likable person with a skewed take on the world, who is yet determined to do what’s right. Wes Bentley and Linda Cardellini play friends who become part of Alice’s collateral damage. The cast also includes Joan Cusack, James Marsden and Jennifer Jason Leigh as the production staff of the show who become something different every episode.
Producer Will Ferrell, Marsden and Piven will be on hand to answer questions after the screening.
