Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival, LA

When: Friday, March 13- Saturday, March 14, 2015

Hot Spot: The Egyptian Theatre, LA

Deets: OUTFEST, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing, showcasing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media, has announced its lineup for the 2015 Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival. Now in its 12th year, Outfest Fusion is the only multicultural LGBT film festival of its kind and will be held March 13th – 14th at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Outfest Fusion is presented by HBO and is supported by NBCUniversal and Nielsen.

Writer, Director and Producer Rose Troche (Go Fish, The Safety of Objects, “The L Word”) will receive the 2015 Fusion Achievement Award, which will be presented by the stars of “The L Word” prior to the Fusion Gala Short Films on Saturday, March 14.

2015 Outfest Fusion will open on Friday, March 13th with a new digitally restored print of Paris Is Burning courtesy of the Sundance Institute, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, and the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, followed by the romantic comedy Eat With Me. This year’s Outfest Fusion line-up also boasts the Worldwide Premiere of Bamby Salcedo’s Ascendance: Angels Of Change about the Trans youth group she runs at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; and the US Premiere of Stories of Our Lives from Kenya, which just played the Berlin Film Festival.

Fresh off its win at the Independent Spirit Awards is a special screening of Dear White People coupled with a Q&A with its filmmakers. Also playing is The Year We Thought About Love, a documentary that follows an LGBT youth theater troupe in Boston. The program is rounded out by an encore screening of I Am Happiness On Earth, and a thought-provoking selection of Documentary Shorts entitled Truth Be Told.

Outfest Fusion is also excited to be hosting a two-week workshop facility – Fusion Lab – in the heart of Koreatown. Fusion Lab provides free classes in screenwriting, storytelling, cinematography, editing and directing. These classes are taught by Outfest Alumni filmmakers and are a wonderful way to be introduced to the world of filmmaking. This year’s exceptional instructors are Angela Robinson, D’Lo, Doug Spearman, Alex Kondracke and George Reyes, and Jamie Renee Williams. The Fusion Lab Workshops are FREE and for all ages. We encourage reserving a spot in advance for these highly anticipated classes, though you are able to walk-up and attend on a space-available basis. For the complete Fusion Lab schedule and to sign up for classes, go to www.Outfest.org/fusion2015 and select the Fusion Lab tab.
