Affair: Grammys On The Hill Awards Salutes Alicia Keys & Grammy on the Hills Advocacy Day
When: Wednesday, April 15, 2015 @ 6PM
Hot Spot: The Hamilton, DC
Deets: Alicia Keys was among the honorees at the 2015 GRAMMYs on the Hill Awards on April 15 in Washington, D.C. First lady Michelle Obama presented the Recording Artists' Coalition Award to the 15-time GRAMMY winner. Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) were also honored for their support of music creators' unique role in American life. The event, known as "Washington's most interesting mix of music and politics," also featured performances by Hunter Hayes, Angela Hunte and Ledisi, among others.
Serving as master of ceremonies for the awards was Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Hunter Hayes. The Grammys on the Hill Awards are sponsored by SESAC. Event proceeds benefit the Grammy Foundation’s Grammy Signature Schools program, dedicated to supporting underserved music programs.
Spotted: Alicia Keys, Hunter Hayes, Michelle Obama, Ledisi, Angela Hunte, Rodney Jerkins, Eddie Money, Ray Parker Jr., Robert Earl Keen Jr., Kirk Whalum, Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) were also recognized at Wednesday’s event. Among some of the other lawmakers eyed at the music-centric awards ceremony: Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — who told ITK she’s practically a U2 groupie, “Our whole family knows every word to every U2 song,” — Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Billy Long (R-Mo.), Judy Chu (D-Calif.), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Gregg Harper (R-Miss.), Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.), Michael McCaul (R-Texas), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
