Deets: Tuesday evening, March 10th, Bent on Learning raised over $350,000 at their 6th Annual Inspire! Gala at Capitale in Manhattan.

Following cocktails and a silent auction, actress and model Bridget Moynahan welcomed guests to the dinner and program portion of the evening. Yoga enthusiast Hilaria Baldwin then led students from Children’s Workshop School and New Design High School in a charming and sweet yoga performance on-stage, following which several of the children spoke about how yoga has improved their lives.

Bent on Learning supporter Dr. Frank Lipman introduced honoree Gopi Kallayil, Chief Evangelist of Brand Marketing at Google, to the stage where Kallayil gave a heartfelt speech about the value of yoga in schools. As well, he asked guests to stand and join him in a brief yoga practice. Although only a few minutes long, guests clad in cocktail attire joined him for the first ever yoga session at a New York City Gala.


About the honoree: 

Gopi Kallayil is the Chief Evangelist, Brand Marketing at Google. In his prior roles he worked as Chief Evangelist, Google Social for Brands, led the marketing team for the Company’s flagship advertising product, AdWords, in the Americas and Asia Pacific, and the marketing team for AdSense. Before joining Google, Gopi was on the management team of two Silicon Valley venture funded startups and a consultant with McKinsey & Co. He has also led large Information Technology projects for global corporations in India, China, and the US.

Gopi earned his Bachelors degree in electronics engineering from the National Institute of Technology in India. He received his Masters in Business Administration degrees from the Indian Institute of Management and The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an avid yoga practitioner, triathlete, public speaker, global traveler and Burning Man devotee. He has spoken at TEDx, Yoga Journal Conference, Renaissance Weekend, The World Peace Festival and Wisdom 2.0. He hosts a TV program on cable and YouTube called Change Makers.

Gopi’s deep yoga and mediation practice has allowed him to integrate his inner and outer technologies to a remarkable degree. He is renowned for his insights on the business of mindfulness and core principles of innovation that can transform corporations into more conscious workplaces. His first exposure to yoga in school in India at age 13, when his school started a yoga program, has paved the way to his current place in life and to his connection to Bent On Learning. Yoga was the beginning of this journey, and continues to be an integral part of his life and work. He is the founder of the Yoglers program for Googlers and leads a yoga practice every week at Google’s HQ in Silicon Valley.
