Hot Spot: Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club, 7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814
Deets: The Rock & Roll for Children Foundation hosted a fabulous evening of music, dancing, food and drink, & silent auction benefiting The Children’s Inn at the NIH. The night featured the newest member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--Ricky Byrd (John Jett & The Blackhearts)-- and Simon Kirke (Bad Company), Mark Rivera (Billy Joel, Ringo Starr), Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent), Jeff Kazee (Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny), Christine Ohlman (Saturday Night Live Band), and W. G. Snuffy Walden (West Wing, Friday Night Lights). Amy Keys, a DC native who recently performed with Sam Smith at the 2015 Grammys, as well as DC’s own True Gravity represented Washington’s music scene.
Rock fans enjoyed a night of live performances while bidding on silent auction items including memorabilia and guitars signed by the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Aerosmith, Ringo Starr, Coldplay front man Chris Martin, James Taylor, Bruno Mars, and many more. Other donated items include exciting vacation packages to destinations around the world such as Africa, Maui, and Scotland.
We spoke to Jon Belinkie, Founder & Board Member of the Rock & Roll for Children Foundation which was started 8 years ago. Since it's implementation, the Foundation has raised over 1/2 million dollars for children. Other fundraising events include wine, tequila and salsa tastings. A true visionary, Belinkie hopes to see the Foundation expand to more cities, like Boston, Cleveland and Los Angeles, to raise money for children across the US. Of the events, Belinkie says if there's a full room "we'll promise to rock it!"

The only thing that could possibly rival the heartbreak of a child who has only known illness, or worse yet one who has had good health snatched away, is the anguish of their parents. The Rock and Roll for Children Foundation is a volunteer-based non-profit that operates with the assistance of charitable gifts and in-kind donations. Therefore, all funding beyond event costs and direct expenses like postage goes to our recipient organizations. We have set lofty goals for ourselves in the mission of this Foundation and the expansion plans we are working to achieve. Your donation and/or referral to other charitable individuals are the keys to our current and continued success.
In conjunction with the National Institutes of Health, the Children’s Inn provides kids and their families with a welcoming and lively home-away-from-home while receiving treatments for significant illnesses. Along with the proceeds from the silent auction, ticket sales added to RRFC’s contribution to the Children’s Inn.
