Affair: The African Children's Choir Rocks Rainey Street

When: Thursday, December 4, 2014 @ 6:30 PM

Hot Spot: The Container Bar, Austin, Texas

Deets: Guests kicked off the holidays with an evening of food, drink, music & dancing at The Container Bar on Rainey Street. The evening featured music from the internationally acclaimed African Children's Choir, Max Frostuest, Guy Forsyth & Sara Hickman. Gifts, shirts, and jewelry were available for purchase as well as a live auction with proceeds benefitting the Choir.

We spoke with Kyle Chandler, a longtime supporter of the African Children's Choir and host to 4 of the kids during their stay in Austin. He emphasized the children's hard work and commitment to the choir. "The thing I want to point out most of all is the chaperones and the kids themselves -- they're doing hard work -- and to give them that credit. They are kids that come to America and see all this excess and then you go to them and see the spiritual simpleness of life and it's just so wonderful... A great message." Kyle's daughter, Sawyer, was able to visit Africa and her beautiful photography from that time was included in the live auction that evening. She said she really bonded with the children and they spent time playing Twister and Uno together.

The African Children’s Choir is composed of African children, aged 7 to 10 years old. Many have lost one or both parents through the devastation of war, famine and disease. They represent all the children of a continent and they demonstrate the potential of African children to become strong leaders for a better future in their land.

The primary goal of the Choir is to raise awareness of the need of destitute and orphaned children in Africa and to raise funds for continued development and support of the African Children’s Choir Programs. The Choir’s international educational endeavour provides unique training for the children. Once Choir members have completed a concert tour, they will return to their homelands with the tools necessary for bettering their future. Thanks to the many donors and supporters who have experienced their joy and inspiration, over the past 30 years, the ACC has educated more than 52,000 children across Africa, and helped more than 100,000 people through their relief and development programs throughout the seven African countries the organization serves.
