The Oscar-winning star of Scent of a Woman—as well as classics including The Godfather,Dog Day Afternoon and Scarface—gives an electric performance playing a famous stage actor facing self-doubt and depression. An affair with a much younger woman (Greta Gerwig) makes his tenuous hold on reality even shakier. Based on the novel by Philip Roth, the film has a dark humor—deftly handled by the Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson, working from a script by Buck Henry and Michael Zebede. Pacino's recent outstanding work includes Angels in America, The Merchant of Venice and Phil Spector.
Levinson also directed Pacino as Dr. Jack Kevorkian in the 2010 HBO movie, You Don’t Know Jack," for which the actor won an Emmy Award. Levinson's additional credits include Diner,Avalon, Rain Man, Bugsy and Wag the Dog.
