On Tuesday, May 2, 2017 Figure Skating in Harlem celebrated 20 years of its one-of-a-kind education, health, and leadership program for girls of color at the Champions in Life Benefit Gala, held at 583 Park Avenue, NYC.The gala fundraiser brought in nearly 1 million dollars.

The organization honored Olympic medalist Sasha Cohen and philanthropistCurtis McGraw Webster, and presented a special Power of Inspiration Award to figure skating icon and humanitarian Scott Hamilton

On hand to celebrate FSH's 20th Anniversary were figure skating stars of the past, present, and future including Olympic Champions Meryl Davis, Evan Lysacek, Scott Hamilton, and Dick Button; Olympic medalists Sasha Cohenand JoJo Starbuck, as well as 2018 Olympic hopefuls and three-time world medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani, three-time National Champion Ashley Wagner, 2017 National Champion Nathan Chen, and 2016 National ChampionAdam Rippon.

Event co-chair and fashion designer Vera Wang said “Figure Skating in Harlem is a quintessential New York organization that’s about achievement, excellence and community.” Wang enjoyed the evening's presentations and celebrations with fellow fashion designers B Michael and Louise Camuto, business moguls Terry Lundgren and Jeff Tweedy, media personalities s Andrea Joyce and Rhonda Ross, and philanthropists Susan Fales-Hill, Agnes Gund, and Ellen Lowey. Actor/producer/director Tamara Tunie served as emcee for the evening, and Academy Award®-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg was the honorary co-chair.

Figure Skating in Harlem remains the first and only organization in the country that combines the power of education with access to the grace and discipline of figure skating to help girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership and academic achievement. Recent graduates of the program have gone on to Brown University, Boston College, Howard University and others. FSH is in the process of expanding to other cities, including Detroit, where programming is already underway.
